Pain is not a stage to endure
Persistent pain, cracked nipples, too few wet diapers or no weight gain are situations that can be solved, and solved faster with help. Contact a breastfeeding service before waiting for the next follow-up appointment.
Where to ask for help
The CLSC or the baby's follow-up team is the entry point of the health network, often with a nurse trained in breastfeeding and group meetings. Breastfeeding clinics provide individual consultations with observation of a feed, which resolves the most frequent problem. Volunteer peer support lines are free and reachable for a simple doubt.
Returning to work
Plan ahead: express milk beforehand, find out where you can do it at work, plan storage and transport, and ask in writing for a clean closed space, a break and a fridge. The framework depends on the collective agreement, the sector and the employer's policies.
Formula and milk donation
If breastfeeding cannot continue, use commercial formula according to the product instructions and health network guidance, and never dilute it to save money. Donating milk goes through a milk bank, which screens donors and pasteurises for distribution; informal private sharing leaves medical and safety risks unmanaged.
