Reaction, burn or injury linked to a cosmetic: obtain care and report the product
Stop use, keep the label and lot number, document symptoms and report the cosmetic incident to Health Canada.
For trouble breathing, major swelling, a serious burn or eye injury, obtain emergency medical care immediately.
Stop exposure
Rinse as directed by medical advice or poison control and do not try the product again. Cosmetics can include makeup, soap, shampoo, fragrance or products applied to teeth.
Keep product details
Keep the container, ingredient list, lot number, receipt, purchase location and dated photos. Do not send away the product before receiving instructions.
Document the reaction
Note the time used, amount, affected area, symptoms, treatment and other products used. Ask the health professional to record the suspected link.
Submit the report
Use Health Canada’s channel for a cosmetic incident or adverse effect. Also notify the manufacturer or seller without giving away your only evidence.
