Keep your distance, record the location and contact Quebec’s marine-mammal emergency network.
Do not touch, feed or try to cut rope. An injured animal is powerful and an improvised intervention can worsen entanglement.
Reduce disturbance
Keep people, dogs, vessels and drones away. Follow approach rules and leave a clear route to the water.
Record the situation
Note place, time, approximate species, size, breathing, injuries, rope, direction of travel and conditions. Do not delay the call for a perfect photograph.
