Earthquake felt in Quebec: submit an official observation
Get to safety, distinguish shaking from damage and complete Natural Resources Canada’s felt report.
Stay away from damaged buildings, walls, chimneys and lines. Call 911 for injury, fire, leak or collapse risk.
Check before re-entry
Observe the foundation, walls, gas, electricity and fallen objects from a safe place. Do not re-enter a building that appears unstable.
Record the experience
Note approximate time, location, floor, position, motion felt, duration, displaced objects and damage. Do not confuse magnitude with local intensity.
Complete the questionnaire
Earthquakes Canada collects “Did You Feel It?” reports to build community intensity maps. Answer from your personal observation.
Keep files separate
The scientific questionnaire does not replace a municipal report, inspection, insurance notice or emergency call.
