Potentially inhumane animal transport: report it to the CFIA
Document unfit, overcrowded or poorly protected animals without blocking the vehicle and promptly report the facts.
Do not stop a truck or enter a trailer. If an animal is on the roadway or a vehicle creates an immediate hazard, call 911.
Observe briefly
Record date, time, place, direction, company, plate, trailer and species. Describe visible signs such as falling, crowding, injury, cold, heat or poor ventilation.
Do not pursue
Do not follow the vehicle dangerously or try to open a door. A lawfully taken photo may help, but road safety comes first.
Report promptly
The CFIA asks people to contact their local office when they believe regulations were not followed during animal loading, transport or unloading.
Separate other concerns
Cruelty outside transport may belong with MAPAQ or police. Provide the same occurrence number when more than one authority is involved.
