Laser pointed at an aircraft: protect safety and report it
Respond without confrontation, record observable facts and promptly notify police when a laser targets an aircraft.
If a beam is currently aimed at an aircraft, call 911 or local police immediately. Do not stare into the beam or pursue the person.
Get to safety
Look away from the beam and move behind cover if necessary. Do not recreate the act to demonstrate its path.
Record the facts
Note time, place, beam colour, approximate origin, direction, aircraft description and duration. Record clothing or a vehicle only if safely observed.
Call police
Transport Canada asks witnesses to report the incident to local police. State that an aircraft is being targeted so the urgency is understood.
Preserve evidence
Keep original files and the occurrence number. Do not publish the exact location before reporting it; a report does not authorize a private investigation.
