Playing music at a business or event: the Entandem process
Describe music uses and find licensing forms for the venue and activity.
The required licence depends on actual use; do not assume one form covers every event.
Describe the activity
Identify the establishment and intended use: background music, performances, dancing or another activity. Have combined uses reviewed rather than choosing solely by business sector. [1]
Select the forms
Consult the listed SOCAN and Re:Sound categories. Compare their descriptions with your programming and request assistance if several categories appear relevant. [2]
Gather tariff information
The applicable form identifies information needed for calculation. Prepare your activity data and consult the current tariff rather than borrowing an amount quoted for another business. [2]
Maintain the licensing record
Keep licences and declarations and manage follow-up through the portal. Have coverage reviewed when programming or music uses change. [1]
