Capturing, banding, studying, educating with or rehabilitating migratory birds: request the right scientific permit
Define the activity and species, demonstrate competence and care, complete applicable modules, then arrange reports and other permits.
Temporary help for a bird in distress does not make someone an authorized rehabilitation centre. Promptly contact a permit holder or regional office.
Confirm the scope
Specify capture, banding, sampling, possession, education or rehabilitation and identify target and non-target species.
Prepare the information
Choose mandatory and activity modules and gather qualifications, care protocol and ethics approval when required.
Complete the process
Submit to the Bird Banding Office or the appropriate regional office based on the activities and allow for service time.
Keep follow-up records
After issuance, follow named-person, location, method, number, expiry and accurate annual-report conditions.
