Phone number transferred without consent: secure accounts and dispute the port

Contact the provider immediately, secure accounts tied to the number, preserve transfer notices and escalate to the CCTS if needed.

Priority

A sudden loss of service may let a fraudster receive your codes. Use another device to call the provider and secure email and banking first.

Act immediately

Call the original provider and ask for the fraud or porting team. Request that the transfer be stopped, add a PIN and obtain a case number.

Secure accounts

Change passwords for the primary email, financial services and accounts using text messages. Replace SMS authentication where possible.

Preserve records

Keep port notices, loss-of-service times, screenshots, bills, SIM card, communications and unauthorized transactions. Ask what approval was used.

Escalate the dispute

If the provider does not resolve it, complain to the CCTS after giving the provider a chance to act. Also report financial losses to police and the Anti-Fraud Centre.
