406 MHz emergency beacon: register it and keep it updated
Link the beacon to its owner, contacts and vehicle and update the registry after every change.
In distress, activate the beacon according to its manual and seek rescue. After a false activation, immediately contact the coordination centre to prevent an unnecessary search.
Identify the beacon
Record the hexadecimal identifier, ELT, EPIRB or PLB type, make, model and associated vehicle or vessel. Do not test in distress mode.
Prepare contacts
Choose people who can confirm your itinerary, vehicle and occupant count. Verify phone numbers, emails and call order.
Register with the Canadian registry
The Canadian Beacon Registry collects 406 MHz beacon information so search-and-rescue teams can interpret an alert.
Update and transfer
Update owner, address, contacts and use after a sale, long-term loan or vehicle change. Remove the old association only as the registry instructs.
