Laboratory: contain, investigate and report an incident involving a human pathogen or toxin
Apply the emergency plan, protect people, preserve facts and meet internal and federal notices tied to the licence.
For an exposure, injury or active spill, immediately activate emergency response, medical care and decontamination. Administrative reporting follows protection of people.
Confirm the scope
Stop work, isolate the area under the plan, care for exposed people and notify the biological safety officer.
Prepare the information
Preserve strains, inventories, access, equipment, alarms and logs; record who, what, when, where and actions without compromising containment.
Complete the process
Classify exposure, containment loss, inadvertent possession, missing material or another event and check licence notice deadlines.
Keep follow-up records
Report through the Biosecurity Portal, analyze causes and controls and document training, repairs and closure.
