Canadian journal, magazine or other serial publication: request an ISSN
Check serial eligibility, prepare the title and proof of publication, and request a number for each required language or medium.
An ISSN identifies a serial; it does not protect the title, replace copyright or apply to every website or recurring document.
Check eligibility
Confirm the publication is publicly available, has an enduring title and has sufficient Canadian content or creators under ISSN Canada criteria.
Distinguish versions
Identify languages, print, online and other media editions. One serial may need separate ISSNs for its versions.
Prepare evidence
Gather the title page or mock-up, first issue or online access, frequency, publisher, launch date, language and contact details.
Apply and display
Complete the form for each serial, provide the requested proof and place the assigned number in a stable area of the publication and its metadata.
