Commercial vessel radio: obtain the Restricted Operator Certificate — Maritime Commercial

Confirm the ROC-MC is the right certificate, choose an accredited institution, complete the course and pass the exam before operating the covered radio.

Priority

A real emergency may justify using an available communication method to seek help; the certificate remains required for normal operation of the covered service.

Choose the correct certificate

The ROC-MC covers radio operators on commercial vessels. Pleasure, aeronautical and some marine jobs use different certificates or qualifications.

Find an institution

Use the official list of accredited institutions. Check schedule, language, cost, materials, identification and rewrite policy.

Prepare for the exam

Study calling, distress, urgency, safety, phonetic alphabet, frequencies, false alerts and radio discipline under the official syllabus.

Keep the certificate

After passing, verify the name and keep proof available. An operator certificate does not replace a station licence when one is required.
