Unexploded ordnance or suspected military object: do not touch
Recognize a potentially explosive object, leave by the same path and call police without moving it.
Do not move, strike or wet it, and do not approach to read markings. Old ordnance can still explode.
Leave by the same path
Move away slowly along the route already used. If seen from a vehicle in hazardous terrain, remain inside and back out when possible.
Keep others away from a distance
Warn people without placing tape or a marker near the object. Do not use a radio or phone immediately beside it.
Call 911 or police
Describe the location, access, shape and circumstances from a safe place. The federal unexploded-ordnance program says to let authorities respond.
Do not publish the location
Keep distant photos and the occurrence number, but do not publish the exact location. Wait for authorization before resuming work or activity.
