Unusual plant pest or disease: report a sighting to the CFIA
Avoid moving the specimen, photograph signs and provide the location of a suspected plant pest.
Leave the plant, wood, soil, insect and packaging where they are or confined at the location. Moving them can spread the pest.
Document signs
Take clear photos of the organism, damage, leaves, bark and whole plant. Add a scale object without handling the insect with bare hands.
Locate the find
Record address or coordinates, date, host plant, specimen count, recent purchase and known origin. Do not identify the species solely through an app.
Use the plant-health report
The CFIA invasive pests and plants page links to its pest-sighting report. Provide original images and available facts.
Wait before treatment
Do not apply pesticide or discard material before a response unless there is an immediate hazard. Then follow collection, destruction or movement instructions.
