Suspicious Statistics Canada survey: verify the survey and interviewer
Confirm the identity and legitimacy of a call, text, email or visit without relying on received contact details.
End the exchange if someone demands payment, a password, security code or money transfer. Use official contact information you find yourself.
Record without responding
Note the name, survey, displayed number, email address, time and documents shown. Do not click a link or photograph the person’s ID card.
Verify the employee
Statistics Canada says interviewers carry photo identification. The employee name can be checked in the Government of Canada directory.
Confirm the survey
Call Statistics Canada using the number on its official page to validate the call, text, email or questionnaire. Do not simply call back the incoming number.
Resume only after confirmation
Ask how to access the official questionnaire and which answers are mandatory or voluntary. Separately report impersonation to the Anti-Fraud Centre.
