Imported veterinary vaccine, diagnostic or antibody: obtain the correct commercial, research or emergency permit
Classify the product and use, coordinate manufacturer and importer, provide required data and wait for the permit before shipment.
There is no general exemption for a small shipment, personal use, research or an emergency. The permit must be obtained before importation.
Confirm the scope
Confirm that it is a veterinary biologic rather than a drug, feed, sample or pathogen governed by another process.
Prepare the information
Determine whether the product is licensed in Canada and whether the request is commercial, investigational or emergency use under veterinary supervision.
Complete the process
Gather manufacturer, origin, lots, indications, safety and efficacy data, facilities and the designated importer.
Keep follow-up records
File with the Canadian Centre for Veterinary Biologics, await the decision and follow direct-shipment, inspection and permit conditions.
