Have the animal assessed, keep the product and lot number, then send clinical facts to Health Canada even if causation remains uncertain.
Breathing distress, seizures, collapse or significant human exposure requires an immediate call to a veterinarian, 911 or poison control.
Stabilize the situation
Contact the veterinarian before repeating or stopping a prescribed drug unless urgent instructions say otherwise. Secure the package and prevent further exposure.
Gather details
Record species, weight, age, dose, route, administration times, other drugs, symptoms and progression. Keep the name, DIN, lot, expiry and veterinarian details.
Define the event
A report may concern an animal reaction, human exposure, lack of expected effect or a problem after labelled or off-label use.
Report without waiting for certainty
An owner, veterinarian or anyone else may report to Health Canada. Attach relevant records and keep the tracking reference.
