Wildfire sighting: locate it and report it promptly to SOPFEU
Get to safety, describe smoke or flames and use SOPFEU’s online or telephone reporting channel.
Move away from the path of smoke and flames. For immediate danger, a trapped person or fire near a building, call 911.
Record the location
From a safe place, note the road, kilometre marker, water body, coordinates or visible landmarks. Separate your location from the estimated fire location.
Describe what is visible
Report smoke colour and volume, flames, wind direction, apparent size and possible access. Do not travel off-road for a better view.
Report without delay
SOPFEU accepts reports online and at 1-800-463-FEUX. A local fire department, 911 or the Sûreté du Québec can also receive an urgent alert.
Remain reachable without blocking
Provide a callback number if requested, then keep access routes clear. Do not fly a drone near a fire or return to collect images.
