Wildlife care centre: obtain the permit required to rehabilitate wild animals

Confirm species and experience, prepare facilities and a veterinary agreement, obtain the permit, then follow care and release rules.

Priority

A member of the public should not bring home found wildlife. Contact an authorized holder first; some species may be captured only by a wildlife officer.

Confirm the scope

Determine species, capacity, experience, staff, isolation, quarantine and special conditions including rabies and mandatory-report species.

Prepare the information

Prepare facilities preventing escape, public contact and habituation, with care, biosecurity, euthanasia and release protocols.

Complete the process

Enter a veterinary service agreement and send the form, experience evidence, plans and fees to the regional office.

Keep follow-up records

After issuance, keep records, provide care, release once fit, respect movement distances and notify the ministry as required.
