Guide

Transacting professionally with the CBSA for clients: apply for a customs broker licence

Verify structure and a qualified officer, pass the exam, arrange security and an office, then file the complete application.

Priority

Acting as a broker without a licence may lead to a penalty. CARM access, a power of attorney or employment by a broker is not your own licence.

Confirm the scope

Choose an individual, partnership or corporate licence and confirm residency, good character and ownership.

Prepare the information

Designate the qualified person who passed the examination within the applicable period and verify responsibilities.

Complete the process

Prepare Form L53, security, office, employees, officers, checks and the required annual fee.

Keep follow-up records

File with the Licensing Unit, await the decision and manage changes, renewal, accounts and client records.
