Stocking a waterbody: live-fish authorizations
Coordinate the hatchery, regional application and conservation restrictions before stocking.
Buying fish does not, by itself, authorize releasing them into a lake or river.
Identify the applicant
The private hatchery generally requests authorization. A wildlife-area manager can also apply. Agree on who will obtain the permit before delivery. [1]
Check the waterbody
Check the framework for the species and destination. Wildlife conservation can justify refusal; private land does not mean automatic authorization. [2]
Submit the application
Use the transport or stocking form through the regional wildlife office, or its web application with an assigned user code. Keep the issued documents. [1]
Wait for the decision
Do not make an irreversible release commitment before approval. Confirm authorized species and conditions, and report project changes instead of reusing an unsuitable permit. [2]
