Lost, stolen or expired RAMQ card: replacing and renewing Quebec health insurance
What to do when your Quebec health insurance card is lost, stolen, damaged or expired, and how replacement differs from renewal.
Choose the right process
| Situation | Action |
|---|---|
| Lost or stolen | Request a replacement. |
| Damaged | Request a replacement. |
| Incorrect information | Use the correction process. |
| Expired | Use the renewal process, which may differ from replacement. |
Replacement
RAMQ offers a replacement process for lost, stolen or damaged cards. Depending on eligibility, an online service may reuse the photo and signature already on file.
Renewal
RAMQ normally sends a renewal notice before expiry. If you did not receive it or lost it, use RAMQ’s current instructions to determine what to do. Photo and signature requirements vary by age and situation.
Care while the card is expired
Depending on the situation, you may have to pay for an otherwise covered service and request reimbursement after your coverage documents are corrected. Keep receipts and confirm the current RAMQ procedure.
