Incomplete or defective work: claim against the contractor’s licence bond
Verify licence and coverage, formally demand performance, quantify the loss and file with or without a judgment as appropriate.
A complaint to the RBQ does not automatically produce compensation. A bond claim, warranty plan and court action are separate routes.
Check coverage
Confirm the contractor held a licence when the contract and work occurred, then distinguish the licence bond from mandatory new-home warranty coverage.
Build evidence
Keep the contract, quotes, payments, licence, photos, communications, demand letter, expert evidence and estimates to finish or correct the work.
Choose the route
The RBQ explains claims with and without a judgment. Check deadlines, form, surety and the effect of contractor bankruptcy.
File and follow up
Send a complete package, keep proof of receipt and answer requests. Monitor the pooled claim file and other remedies before limitation periods expire.
