Exporting a controlled item, software or technology: classify it and apply for the required federal permit
Check the list and destination, document end-user and end-use, choose an individual or general permit, then declare accurately.
An electronic transmission, cloud access or technical discussion can be a transfer. Do not focus only on physical border movement.
Confirm the scope
Describe the item, components, software, technical data, origin, proposed classification, country, consignee and end-users.
Prepare the information
Check the Export Control List, Area Control List and complementary rules such as sanctions and controlled goods.
Complete the process
Obtain end-use statements, contracts and technical records and request a classification advisory opinion if needed.
Keep follow-up records
File in the stated system, await the permit and comply with quantity, value, destination, validity, reporting and recordkeeping.
