Damaged or destroyed geodetic marker: report it in Quebec

Recognize a marker, do not move it and send its location and condition to the responsible ministry.

Do not move the marker

Do not pull out, straighten or reinstall a monument or tablet. It belongs to a reference network and its position must be assessed by specialists.

Identify without forcing

Record the inscription, number, support type and visible condition. Do not scrape the surface or uncover the marker with machinery.

Locate it precisely

Note coordinates, address or lot, distance to a fixed feature, date and nearby work. Take an overview and a readable detail view.

Prevent further damage

If work continues, notify the site lead and mark a buffer without moving the point. A report does not authorize access to neighbouring property.

Notify the ministry

The MRNF asks that information about a damaged or destroyed marker be sent by email. Keep the message and any technical reply.
