Suspected election-law violation: document it and inform Élections Québec

Preserve suspicious advertising, solicitation or spending and provide verifiable facts without conducting a private investigation.

Threat or violence

For immediate intimidation, threats or violence at a polling place, move away and call police. Do not try to seize material.

Identify the possible rule

Record whether the concern involves financing, contributions, spending, advertising, voting, a candidate or election administration. Political disagreement is not an offence.

Preserve material

Keep the URL, full capture, displayed sponsor, date, time, place, receipt, message and context. Do not alter a sign or create a false exchange to test someone.

Inform the institution

Élections Québec is mandated to investigate offences under provincial, municipal and school election laws within its jurisdiction. Use its official contact information.

Remain factual

Give the origin of each item and available witnesses. The institution decides whether to investigate or prosecute and may not immediately disclose next steps.
