Exporting food: request the certificate required by the importing country from the CFIA
Check country and product requirements, maintain establishment eligibility, apply early and do not ship before certification.
The CFIA cannot retroactively certify facts it could not verify. Do not ship before issuance and any required inspection.
Confirm the scope
Confirm country, product, treatment, establishment, ingredients, origin, lot, amount, destination and the exact certificate requested by the importer.
Prepare the information
Check SFC licensing, export program, establishment listing, preventive controls and market-specific attestations.
Complete the process
Apply through My CFIA or the stated channel with enough lead time, commercial records and availability for inspection or sampling.
Keep follow-up records
Compare the issued certificate with the shipment, protect the original, report changes and keep the lot file and proof of export.
