Research ethics: completing TCPS 2 CORE-2022
Plan the online course, complete the assessment and distinguish certification from project ethics review.
The training certificate is not ethics approval for your research protocol.
Plan the modules
The course contains nine modules and is self-paced. Allow time to consider the scenarios rather than focusing only on the final certificate. [1]
Complete the assessment
The final exercise contains 25 questions and requires 20 correct answers. Retakes are possible; use mistakes to review the principles before another attempt. [1]
Check project review requirements
Determine with your institution whether the project needs Research Ethics Board review. The protocol and participants matter, not only the team’s training. [2]
Keep the records separate
Keep the training certificate separate from project decisions and conditions. Confirm required procedures before recruiting participants or beginning the relevant data collection. [2]
