False engineer or reserved activity: report illegal practice to the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec

Check the roll, distinguish member conduct from non-member practice, then provide the relevant facts and documents to the OIQ.

Priority

A structure posing an immediate danger must also be reported to 911, the municipality or the responsible safety authority. A professional investigation is not emergency response.

Verify status

Search the OIQ roll or directory and keep the result. A company may offer services, but reserved titles and activities remain regulated.

Classify the concern

Separate misuse of the engineer title, performance of a reserved activity, improperly signed documents and professional misconduct by a member.

Gather evidence

Keep the service offer, plans, seals, emails, advertising, contract, invoices and project location. Describe observed acts without deciding the legal violation yourself.

Use the correct channel

Use illegal-practice reporting for a non-member; a syndic investigation request instead concerns the professional conduct of a member.
