Moving firewood: check plant-pest restrictions
Check origin and destination zones, avoid transporting insects and keep proof that the wood is allowed.
Do not load wood covered with holes, galleries, larvae or unknown insects to move elsewhere. Isolate it in place and request instructions.
Check both zones
Search CFIA regulated areas for the harvest location, route and destination. A route crossing a regulated area can change what is permitted.
Choose local wood
Buy and burn wood near where it will be used. Keep the receipt, supplier, species, heat-treatment proof and movement certificate when required.
Declare at the border
Imported firewood is subject to strict requirements and must be declared. Do not hide wood in a trailer, recreational vehicle or camping equipment.
Respond to refusal
Do not bypass a checkpoint. Follow return or disposal instructions and contact the CFIA before another movement.
