Check current status requirements
The permit is intended for certain people in Canada who hold an employer-specific permit, or have a related renewal pending, and are experiencing or at risk of abuse in their employment. Confirm IRCC’s current criteria.
Document without increasing risk
Gather permits, contracts, pay statements, schedules, messages, photographs, records, witness information and dated notes. Describe threats, withholding, unsafe conditions, control or retaliation. Store copies in an account or place the employer cannot access.
Submit the correct application
Follow IRCC’s special instructions, include a structured personal explanation and the evidence available. Imperfect evidence should not stop you from seeking help; explain what is missing and why.
Separate the permit from reporting
The permit application addresses work status; reporting the employer triggers examination of the abuse. Also ask about CNESST, employment standards, health care, housing and legal help without allowing a deadline to expire.
