Pesticide exposure or harm: get help, document and report
Respond to effects on a person, animal or the environment and report the facts to the PMRA.
Move away from the product without increasing exposure. Call 911 for an emergency; for possible poisoning, contact the Québec Poison Control Centre and follow the label.
Preserve information, not the hazard
From a safe distance, photograph the label and record the registration number, product name, amount, location, weather, date and affected people, animals or plants. Do not handle a leaking container.
Get an assessment
Give health professionals or a veterinarian the exact product name and registration number. Keep reports, invoices, photographs, clothing or samples only when doing so is safe and recommended.
Report to the PMRA
Health Canada accepts pesticide incident reports involving human or animal health, the environment, packaging or unusual lack of effectiveness. Describe what you observed without exaggerating or claiming an unconfirmed cause.
Make other required notifications
Depending on the situation, also notify the employer, CNESST, municipality, Urgence-Environnement or landowner. Those notices serve different purposes and are not replaced by the federal report.
