Importing plants or plant products: check AIRS and obtain the CFIA permit before shipment

Identify the species and origin, check AIRS requirements, obtain the permit before departure and prepare border documents.

Priority

A permit cannot regularize a shipment that has already departed. Goods without documents may be refused, removed or destroyed at the importer’s expense.

Confirm the scope

Identify each plant or product by scientific name, form, quantity, country of origin and intended use.

Prepare the information

Check AIRS for every combination and distinguish permits, phytosanitary certificates, treatment, inspection and prohibitions.

Complete the process

File a complete application with the National Centre for Permissions before shipment and answer technical requests.

Keep follow-up records

Give all conditions to the supplier and broker, then keep the permit, certificates, invoice and entry record.
