New crop variety to import, advertise or sell: complete federal registration and the legal reference sample
Variety registration and plant breeders’ rights are separate processes. Do not advertise a covered variety prematurely.
Confirm the scope
Check whether the crop is scheduled, its regulatory part, testing, recommendation and required registration type.
Prepare the information
Choose a Canadian-resident applicant or representative and prepare the denomination, origin, description, data, recommendation and safety records.
Complete the process
File through My CFIA or the form, pay the fee and ship the properly sealed and labelled legal reference sample.
Keep follow-up records
Answer the review, await registration before advertising or sale and maintain purity, reference seed, name and restrictions.
