Guide

Paid communication with a federal institution: register and report lobbying activities

Classify consultant or organization, identify subjects and officials, file the registration and required monthly reports.

Priority

Government communication is not always registrable, but the absence of a contract called lobbying creates no exemption. Assess the facts before communicating.

Confirm the scope

Determine whether the person is a consultant or an in-house lobbyist and whether the communication and subject are covered.

Prepare the information

Identify the client or organization, institutions, policies, grants, contracts, legislation and targeted public office holders.

Complete the process

Create the account, assign the responsible officer and file a clear and accurate registration in the registry.

Keep follow-up records

Update changes and endings and submit monthly reports for designated oral communications within applicable deadlines.
