Guide

Wreck, submerged vessel or dangerous object found on the water: stay safe and report it

Do not recover or move it without authorization; record position and risk, then contact emergencies or the responsible program.

Priority

Do not board an unstable wreck or remove anything. For people in danger, imminent collision or a leak, immediately use marine emergency communications.

Confirm the scope

Keep clear and assess people, traffic, fuel, lines, depth and weather without putting your vessel at risk.

Prepare the information

Record coordinates, time, size, colour, marks, visible portion, drift, safe photos and why it is hazardous.

Complete the process

For an emergency contact the Coast Guard or vessel traffic; otherwise use the Navigation Protection Program and stated Receiver of Wreck.

Keep follow-up records

Keep the file number and updated position; do not claim, sell or move the wreck before instructions.
