Guide

Spam, commercial text or misleading electronic message: submit a report to Canada’s Spam Reporting Centre

Do not click, preserve the message and headers, distinguish fraud from unsolicited marketing, then use the official form.

Priority

A spam report does not automatically recover stolen money. If you paid, shared a password or suffered fraud, promptly contact the bank, affected service and police when needed.

Avoid interaction

Do not reply, open attachments or use unsubscribe in an obviously fraudulent message. Block the sender after preserving evidence.

Preserve the message

Keep content, apparent sender, number, date, displayed URL, screenshot and, for email, full headers or the original message file.

Classify the issue

Distinguish commercial messages without consent, misleading identification, software installed without consent and attempted fraud. More than one authority may be relevant.

Submit the report

Use the Spam Reporting Centre form and attach the message as instructed. Keep confirmation without expecting an individual response.
