Unsafe or inadequate school bus service: document and complain
Report concerning driving or service to the carrier and school authority, then use the school complaint process.
For a collision, a child in immediate danger or driving that threatens the public, call 911. An administrative complaint does not replace emergency response.
Record precise facts
Note the date, time, route, stop, bus number or plate, direction, location, observed conduct, witnesses and impact. Do not chase the vehicle or record while driving.
Notify the correct service
For a non-urgent incident, contact the carrier and the school transportation office of the school service centre, school board or private school. Ask for a file number and the planned follow-up.
Protect the child during review
Agree in writing on a temporary solution if the child cannot safely use the service. Tell the school about relevant medical, mobility or supervision needs without disclosing more information than necessary.
Escalate an unresolved complaint
If the school authority’s response remains unsatisfactory, follow its complaint process and then the National Student Ombudsman mechanism. Complete the required stages and include the chronology, correspondence and requested outcome.
