Guide

Capturing or handling wildlife for science, education or management: request the appropriate SEG permit

Define purpose and methods, verify expertise and ethics, detail captures and locations, then meet conditions and final reporting.

Priority

A SEG permit does not displace requirements for species at risk, migratory birds, protected lands, captive animals or research ethics.

Confirm the scope

Choose scientific, educational or management purpose and identify species, life stages, numbers, sites and dates.

Prepare the information

Describe objectives, capture, marking, sampling, mortality, release methods and team competence.

Complete the process

Coordinate ethics, landowner, protected-area, federal and captivity approvals before regional filing.

Keep follow-up records

Await the permit, carry it in the field and submit inventories, incidents, results and the final report.
