Drone operation outside routine rules: request the required Transport Canada authorization
Classify the operation, demonstrate safety controls, coordinate airspace and stakeholders, then wait for written authorization.
Do not fly on the assumption the request will be approved. Special authorization does not replace registration, pilot certification, airspace permission or local rules.
Describe the operation
Fix the aircraft, weight, place, altitude, dates, crew, proximity to people, visibility, airspace and the scenario beyond routine rules.
Assess risk
Document failures, lost link, weather, containment, emergencies, observers, competency, maintenance and protection of people on the ground.
Coordinate permissions
Check NAV CANADA, site owner, municipality, park, event and other authorities. Keep each permission distinct.
Apply early
Use the portal and correct category, answer technical questions and conduct only the operation, period and conditions authorized.
