Research, construction or activity affecting a species at risk: find and apply for the correct federal permit

Identify species, status, land and authority, establish that the activity qualifies and minimize every avoidable effect.

Priority

A scientific, park or fisheries permit does not necessarily cover Species at Risk Act prohibitions. Check all cumulative authorizations.

Confirm the scope

Confirm species, schedule and status, activity, location, federal land, critical habitat, residence and sensitive period.

Choose the Parks Canada, DFO or Canadian Wildlife Service system based on the species and location.

Explain purpose, alternatives, qualifications, methods, number of individuals, effects and mitigation.

Await the decision, coordinate other permits and retain conditions, data, incidents and required reports.
