Inaccurate taximeter or trade measurement: document the transaction and complain to Measurement Canada
Compare the receipt with the displayed quantity or distance, identify the device and submit a measurement complaint with precise facts.
A price difference, tip or disclosed fee is not necessarily a measurement error. Isolate the amount produced by the measuring device.
Check the transaction
Compare the posted rate, displayed distance or time, surcharges and total. Ask for an itemized receipt without opening or altering the device.
Identify the device
Note the taxi number, plate, company, visible device or seal number, place, date and time. Take photos only when lawful and safe.
Seek a correction
Ask the merchant to explain the calculation and record the response. A commercial refund and a regulatory inspection are separate processes.
File the complaint
Use the Measurement Canada form and attach the receipt, photos and calculation. Describe a specific event instead of a general impression about price.
