Unlicensed electrical or construction work: report it to the RBQ

Remove immediate danger, verify the licence and report facts about potentially unlicensed work to the RBQ.

Exposed wires or fire

Do not touch the installation. Shut off power only if you can do so without entering the hazard area, evacuate and call 911 when needed.

Verify the licence

Search the RBQ register for the company and licence subclasses. A number printed on an invoice may be expired or may not cover the work.

Document facts

Keep the quote, contract, invoice, ads, names, dates, address and lawfully taken photos. Do not enter a worksite or confront workers.

Make the site safe

Notify the owner or contractor in writing and have dangerous work assessed by an authorized business. Do not let an emergency depend on complaint processing.

Report unlicensed work

The RBQ provides a dedicated form for work without a licence. Describe the observed activities and period, separating that fact from a dispute about quality or price.
