Unsafe drone or incident: what to record and where to report it
Respond to an immediate hazard, document the flight and choose between police and Transport Canada reporting.
Call 911 if the drone threatens a person, aircraft or emergency operation. Do not try to seize it in flight or confront its pilot.
Record the observation
Note date, time, precise location, direction, approximate altitude, the drone’s appearance and nearby activity. Separate what you saw from assumptions.
Preserve material
Keep original photos or video and witness contact details. Do not publish images that unnecessarily identify people or reveal a sensitive location.
Choose the channel
Transport Canada’s form is used to report a drone incident. Criminal conduct, an immediate threat or harassment may also belong with police.
Give a factual account
Describe the path, proximity, duration and consequences without overstating altitude. A safety report does not guarantee an investigation or replace a damage claim.
