Guide

Bridge, dock, cable or other work in navigable water: determine and file the required federal application

Classify the work, describe navigation effects, consult or publish when required and await approval before construction.

Priority

Landowner, municipal or environmental permission does not replace navigation review. Do not start a work requiring approval merely because an application was filed.

Confirm the scope

Describe the water, work, dimensions, location, schedule, construction, maintenance and current or reasonably foreseeable navigation.

Prepare the information

Check major or minor work classes, listed or unlisted waters and any statutory public-resolution process.

Complete the process

Prepare maps, coordinates, plans, method, marking, temporary and permanent effects, riparian owners and other permissions.

Keep follow-up records

File in the stated registry or portal, answer comments and retain the approval, conditions, notices and post-construction duties.
