Public-body archives: submitting a retention schedule to BAnQ

Adapt sector retention periods, authorize submission and choose GALA or the prescribed channel.

Check before acting

A reference retention-period collection is not itself an approved schedule for your organization.

Adapt the reference material

Identify the current collection for your sector. Map its rules to records actually created or received by the organization. [2]

Prepare the rules

Document record series, responsibilities and proposed periods before submission. Do not substitute a copied sector collection for analysis of the organization’s records. [2]

Choose the channel

GALA is mandatory for certain categories of bodies. For others, the process depends on whether this is an initial schedule, revision or amendment; consult BAnQ instructions. [1]

Authorize submission

Arrange the signature of the highest authority or the required delegation. Keep BAnQ’s decision with the approved version and organize implementation of the accepted rules. [1]
